The Westerville Uptown Merchants Association Presents Midnight Madness 2009
Did you know... in Uptown Westerville, Uptown Strings sits on the site of an old cemetery? The rather haunting legend and lore about the 3rd floor of The Old Bag of Nails Pub? Or that bats and owls fly and roost about Uptown Westerville after dark? A long-time Uptown tradition, the Westerville Uptown Merchants Association presents Midnight Madness on October 30, 2009 from 7 p.m. to Midnight.
Midnight Madness is an annual showcase event for Uptown Westerville merchants. With decorated shops, treats, surprises, and mad deals, it’s a fun opportunity to browse, visit, and buy. This is the night for visitors to shop their favorite haunts and dare to venture where they’ve never been before!
Along with extended shop hours, Midnight Madness features a selection of kid and family-friendly events between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. While costumes are optional, merchants hope to see kids dressed in their seasonal best. Westerville Police and Fire Divisions will be on display with plenty of interactive fun for kids and Uptown merchants will be giving out treats.
Generations Performing Arts Center, 11 W. College, hosts a Midnight Madness Open House, beginning with student performances at 6 p.m. through 7:30 p.m. The Black Catwalk Costume Contest, in the city hall courtyard, gives contestants the opportunity to strut their runway best on a 12-foot catwalk as they vie for Best in Show for kid, teen, adult, family, and dog costume categories. Winners receive a $25 Uptown Gift Card.
Madness guests can sit back and take a horse-drawn hay wagon trip through Uptown Westerville presented by Amish Originals Furniture Co., Edward Jones Investments, and Suite 59 Hair Design. Kids, grown-ups, groups, and businesses can display a decorated pumpkin at the Dairy Queen Community Pumpkin Display. And, stop by DJ's Feed Store for a greyhound encounter, Amish Originals Furniture Co.'s 38 N. State store for Halloween stories from the Westerville Public Library Reader, and enhance their Halloween look with the help of the Midnight Madness Face painter presented by A Gal Named Cinda Lou.
The Midnight Madness web page features links to two coloring pages to print and then color and decorate to create Halloween art. Kids can drop their finished coloring pages off at the Westerville Public Library by October 26, 2009 and their art will be displayed in the Midnight Madness Gallery at 8 E. Main or at select merchants throughout Uptown Westerville.
Madness guests can partake of a Twisted Taste of Westerville and enjoy dinner, drinks, and desserts at Uptown Westerville restaurants or pick up brats on-the-go to benefit Westerville Sertoma.
DJ's Feed Store is hosting a drop off spot for Madness guests to cast-off old cell phones to benefit the Capital Area Humane Society.
And, Madness guests can join the countdown and watch the laws of gravity in action at the first annual pumpkin drop, hosted by WCOL-FM’s Woody Johnson.
To cap off the evening, Madness guests can pick up free tickets for the first annual Midnight Madness Classic Chiller presented by Amish Originals Furniture Co. and Edward Jones Investments on the third floor of The Old Bag of Nails Pub, 24 N. State. This year’s classic chiller selection is Alfred Hitchcock's psychological thriller, Psycho.
The Classic Chiller features a raffle to benefit the Westerville Area Resource Ministry and Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market's WARM Fresh Green Program. Movie guests can purchase a $1 raffle ticket and the winner and their guest will be watching the movie from The Best Seat in the House: two upholstered recliners provided by Amish Originals Furniture Co.
A Westerville seasonal tradition, Midnight Madness offers fun for kids of all ages.
