Just to the east of Westerville Fire Division Station 111, at 374 W. Main, First Responders’ Park is inspired by the loss of Westerville Firefighter, David Theisen, as a tribute dedicated to David and all first responders to remember, to honor, and to celebrate.
An always accessible, interactive place for reflection, the park features two special installations. The first, is a piece of impact-gnarled steel that spanned the 98th through 101st floors of the World Trade Center on the north face of WTC Tower 1.
On Sunday, October 9, 2011, at 1 p.m., the second installation, a bronze cast of a fire fighter called The Crossing will be dedicated. The dimensional statue, by artists Steve Geddes & Bob Moore, is a life-size portrait of Firefighter Theisen standing in a charred doorway in turn out gear.
The dedication is followed by a Fire Prevention Week Open House (from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.) at Fire Station 111.
